After a riveting first half with five total turnovers, the Houston Texans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers slowed up the pace in the third quarter, which ended with the teams tied 20-20. Both teams had a 14-play drive to start the quarter, which factored into a fast third quarter.

Deshaun Watson's 19-yard run on third-and-15 set up a 25-yard field goal by Ka'imi Fairbairn to give Houston a 20-17 lead with 9:30 remaining in the quarter. The drive went 14 plays for 68 yards. Tampa answered with a 41-yard field goal by Matt Gay to cap a 16-play, 57-yard drive that took 8:17 off the clock. Jameis Winston ran for 15 yards on third-and-13 that led to the field goal later in the drive. 

Winston is still in pursuit of a dubious record that may not be reached by any other NFL quarterback. In his attempt to become the first quarterback to throw 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in a season, Winston's three interceptions in the first half put him at 27 on the year. He did not throw an interception in the third quarter, but did go 3 for 3 on his lone possession.
